I am very glad that this was not a long read. I was appalled most of the time. The book was well enough written, though sometimes a bit too verbose. Unfortunately the story did not properly capture me and I am not sure if I will attempt the second book in this series. I had expected more than utter (sexual) violence against slaves and that the topic of rape was gonna be so prominent (without a content warning—at least if there was one, I must have missed it).

As always, it was a quite okey book. What an odd thing to read about Tempe’s conditions and operation and what not but not having heard any of it before. It felt a bit under-explained. The story itself was quite thrilling, though not as good as others I’d say. The oddest thing was the whole product placement bit—it felt like there were more specific products named and advertised than in a tv show riddled with ad breaks. Hope that is not gonna continue into the next few books.

I didn’t enjoy this short story as much as I expected. It felt a bit choppy and less realistic than a regular Tempe book. Likely has to do with me not knowing Lee‘s works at all.

I was really looking forward to reading another in the Temperance Brennan series and I was not disappointed. Finished the book quite fast, even though she did annoy me at times with her stubborn "I do things my way and on my own" attitude. The story was logical and I had some suspicions—like Tempe’s brain, mine fired randomly. But we were both wrong most of the time.

At first I was not quite convinced—the book starts rather boring. Lots of politics and travel without much happening and without too many explanations. Then it finally picks up pace and I really enjoyed being back in the Grishaverse again. I am really glad that there were no real cliffhangers at the end. Just the one very interesting premise for the second book.

I didn’t have the murderer on my radar at all. Even though there were some clues. The book reminded me very much of one of the tv show episodes again. Maybe it is time to stop reading this series since it seems to follow the tv series more closely now and takes a bit too much inspiration instead of coming up with completely original ideas.

I knew very fast who the murderer was and was surprised that I hadn’t been deceived. Forcing the Scottish phrases feels so forced, it is quite a shame.

I enjoyed this book slightly less than expected. At first I was very excited, knowing that it was with men in their early 30s and who like to hike. But it soon got a bit boring and rather predictable. If only it had ended just a couple of chapters early with a bit of a (maybe not so positive cliffhanger).

I almost rushed through this book, because I found it very sweet. Interesting awakening and denial. The names at first confused me—I thought I was in a Heartstopper book. I wish there was another book when they’re at uni and then older and older etc haha

I had my suspicions for a while but am not sure I remembered the story from when I’d read it ages ago, or if I picked up on some of the hints. Lovely how Miss Marple solved it in the end.

As these stories go, a quite predictable but still cute book. I quite enjoyed for once reading about people in their early 30s. They felt authentic enough and it was nice to get a mix of US and Europe. I was a bit surprised how spicy the book would get at times.

I really enjoyed this story and hope I will soon have the possibility to read more about Dunk and Egg.
