Dick Francis: Bonecrack (Paperback, 1997, Pan Publishing)

Neil Griffon, while in temporary charge of his father's stables, is abducted by two men. …

Different kind of mystery

We know the who, the what, the where, the when, and the why. It's a very well crafted tail that that explains the how. Cracking finish and great characters along the way.

Francis, Dick.: Blood sport

When English agent Gene Hawkins agreed to search for millionaire Dave Teller's prized missing stallion, …

Very dark book

I didn’t think when rereading all the Dick Francis books that I would find one I hadn’t previously read decades ago, but here it is. Much darker lead character than you normally get. Good engaging plot and a dark finish.

Francis, Dick.: Odds against

From Goodreads: Sid Halley, an injured jockey, becomes a private eye and carries out some …

First Sid book

Sid gets off to a great start with a rollicking good tale. We know the who from the first but we don’t know the what, where, why, or how and its great fun finding out.

Francis, Dick.: For kicks

Australian horse breeder Daniel Roke goes undercover in the British racing industry to find those …

Another quality mystery from Dick

I'd forgotten this one starts off near Cooma! Great tale with some excellent characters. I didn't work out the mystery until half way through and it had a cracking ending.

Francis, Dick.: Nerve

Jockey Rob Finn was on a winning streak, but now he's coming in last on …

Another good plot with interesting characters

Started with a bang, then took a little while to get going but everything clicked into place as soon as I worked out what was going on. Well worth the re-read!

Francis, Dick.: Dead cert (1975, Pocket Books)

Jockey Bill Davidson's accident seems suspicious to his friend Alan Yorke who goes back to …

Great story that has aged pretty well

The lack of technology in the tale allows it to be more timeless than it otherwise would have. Good twisty plot and good character development. One line stuck out and should be removed if there is a later edition, but other wise it all held up pretty well.

reviewed System Collapse by Martha Wells (The Murderbot Diaries, #7)

Martha Wells, Martha Wells (duplicate): System Collapse (Hardcover, 2023, Tordotcom)

Am I making it worse? I think I’m making it worse.

Everyone’s favorite lethal …

Bittersweet end for now of the murderbot diaries

Nice wrapping up of lots of threads and more character development. Will have to wait impatiently for another tale in the universe and watch the TV show in the meantime.

reviewed Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells (The Murderbot Diaries, #6)

Martha Wells: Fugitive Telemetry (2021, Doherty Associates, LLC, Tom)

No, I didn’t kill the dead human. If I had, I wouldn’t dump the body …

Another delicious morsel

The only problem with this literary universe is that there isn’t enough of it. This morsel had some great who done it plot lines along with new characters and character growth and of course the awesome jumbled up mess that is murderbot!

reviewed Network Effect by Martha Wells (The Murderbot Diaries, #5)

Martha Wells: Network Effect (EBook, 2020, Tor.com)

I’m usually alone in my head, and that’s where 90 plus percent of my problems …

Finally a full length murderbot book

Still my favourite book series and I’m sad there are only 2 more left. Much longer full length tale with multiple moving parts and new characters to add to the universe.

Martha Wells: Home (EBook, 2021, Tor Books)

“Home: Habitat, Range, Niche, Territory” is a short story set in the world of Martha …

Too short....

I would love to get a longer viewpoint from others in the murderbot universe, hopefully Martha isn't too occupied with the TV show and has more time to write!
