OMGGGGGGG

I don't know how to talk about this without spoilers, but I won't spoil it I promise. A quick summary:

- Be prepared for the weirdness to be cranked up to 11
- The writing in Ronan's parts has some really incredible writing (and I was not a fan of the writing style in the first book!)
- If Adam annoyed you in book one, he's worse, I'm sorry (minor spoiler but he does improve by the end)
- I think this is fast becoming a new favourite series provided then next two books don't let me down

While I didn't personally love this as much as I hoped I would, I can see why it's so highly recommended. Urban fantasy I guess just isn't really my jam these days, though I really enjoyed Ellie's ghost stuff and the stories about her Six-Great-Grandmother. Also as an Australian is was really cool to learn a bit about a Native American culture through an own voices story.

Did not realise going in that there would be ace rep, but as an ace myself it was a nice surprise, especially since it's not really important, just an aspect of the character and extremely normalised. Also nice to just read a YA book with zero romance lol.

Overall, it was well-written and a fun book to read even if it's not a new favourite and I pass on the recommendation!

Do I recommend this? No lol

I think the only people who will get something out of this are Nancy Drew fans, I mean that's why I read it.I'd played the games but was curious to read the books and thought why not start at the very beginning.

The writing is really clunky both sentence structure-wise and pacing-wise. Not sure if that's a product of the target age of these books or just the time they were written in, but either way I think most teen/adult readers will find it a little jarring. Sadly, I can't even recommend this for kids because of how outdated it is in so many ways. My adult brain can handle having to calibrate to the fact that this is a completely different time period and words don't necessarily mean the same thing and the world works very differently, but most 10-year-olds probably won't. Not …

I'm not sure I have much to say about this one. I enjoyed it, but it definitely feels like part of a series and isn't particularly satisfying on its own. I was quite surprised to find that the book is much more mature than the movie in a good way. In fact, there's a lot they changed for the movie so if like me you loved the movie and wanted to check out the original novel, be prepared for it to be quite different.

A note on the audiobook: while I love the narrator as the main character, when he does the voices of the peculiar kids, the English accent can be a bit painful. It's all borderline cockney no matter the character and there's a lot of noticeable mispronunciations ("bahd" instead of "bad" really got me lol). I got used to it more as it went on, but …

Cat Sebastian is a master of tension (if you know what I mean). I found Percy and Kit's dynamic of semi-retired gruff highwayman and poncy lordling to be both hilarious and sweet and they learn to understand each other.

I'm not sure I cared as much about the general plot (with blackmail and robbery) and found it to be a little confusing at times, so that kept me from giving this the full 5 stars. At the very least it gave plenty of opportunity for more tension and if you love the trope of patching each other's wounds (like me), then this is the book for you!

Review of 'Zombies : a Record of the Year of Infection' on 'Goodreads'

This was pretty much the infinite Ikea SCP but with zombies and I fully mean that as a compliment. The audiobook was really well done, with multiple narrators for side characters. It really felt like listening to someone's voice log, with it not sounding like just reading words off a page and there were sound effects too.

It is very short and ends pretty abruptly, but I can accept it for what it is; a short interesting audiobook. I'm really curious to read the physical book now and see how they compare!

OH MY GOSHHHHHH

My first thriller could not have been a better pick I think! Must have been fate because I checked this out at the library on a whim because I thought "hey I've seen that title before and I'm pretty sure I remember vaguely positive reviews??" HOT DAMN

I finished this in one day because I could not stop reading! It's so fast paced and the tension is always there seeing as it takes place over a short period of time. The main character Darby is also just excellent. I was really able to connect with her (aside from the fact that we both drive ancient honda civics that we named) and she didn't make dumb/unrealistic decisions like I was worried. Also, if you want a thriller where the lead just gets progressively more feral, here you go.

Good thing to note is that this isn't as much …

Dear ACSDAL,
It's not you, it's me. I just don't feel that spark. You're so beautifully written and thoughtfully considered, and you're going to make another reader so happy, but I can't give you what you deserve. I truly wish you all the best and I hope we can stay friends (i.e. I'll try to read your sequels).
Yours sincerely,

I wanted to love this book so badly! And, like, it was well-written and the characters were complex and everything was well thought out and it did so many things I usually like. For example, love me a good multi-POV book, I also love fairytale stuff, high fantasy, low romance (? is that a thing? i'm inventing it as a thing now ok). So I cannot for the life of me work out why I didn't LOVE this. I liked it and …

Did I love this? No. But it was fine for what it was. I kind of wished it was more about the romance as I felt like there was a lot of stuff in there and so the romance felt like it was only around 10-15% of the whole book. What little there was I did enjoy though. Also I thought the character development was well done and the conflicts that occurred later in the book were realistic and resolved in a satisfying way. I suppose I appreciated the critique of the music industry, but as someone who was already knowledgable about that stuff, it ultimately felt very surface level.

Most of my problems came from a combination of "this isn't for me" and the more contrived conflicts/angst of the first act of the book. The not for me was the whole tour stuff and going from city to city, …

- The art was really cool. The character art was a teensy bit inconsistent and tended to be quite blocky (at points characters look like Lego bricks lol), but the panel composition was outstanding throughout
- I liked that the story leant into the Greek mythology, it was a bit convoluted at times, but very cool nonetheless
- Steve was heckin cute
- Diana is so endearing and lovable. She's kind of what I wish wonder woman was more often, focused on her goals and doing what is right rather than being portrayed as overly badass

A solid wonder woman entry, highly recommend!

I don't read romance novels, I don't really read contemporary. So take my review with a grain of salt.

I enjoyed myself quite a bit. I wanted something light and fun and at least a little bit wild and this ticked all the boxes. Tbh I found it to be way more realistic than I expected and I didn't mind.

It gets a tad slow in parts and the political stuff kinda bored me or lost me (I am but a humble Aussie who doesn't understand American political systems).

The romance was really cute and I loved Alex (charming idiot) and Henry (precious cinnamon roll) an unbelievable amount by the end. Some of the lines in the book were so damn romantic that they managed to melt even my stone cold heart.

I don't usually have a lot to say on sequels and this book is no different.

I think overall Neal Shusterman did a really great job of balancing having a satisfying conclusion and also being very realistic. I enjoyed the huge number of perspectives in this book, no matter how brief or extended, every character felt like a universe unto themselves. Like, it's hard enough for some authors to write a main character with a personality, so the sheer amount of depth to pretty much every single character is astounding.

I think I had similar feelings for this as I did Scythe, stopping it from being a full five stars. I enjoyed it, it's extremely well-written, but it didn't quite hit fully for me in the way that Thunderhead did. In the end it was a solid and enjoyable finale.
