Fan of noir detectives, contemporary fantasy, Ernest Hemingway and Robert B. Parker. That just about covers it.

Dark River is a fast-paced blend of mystery, suspense, and a little fantasy thrown in for good measure. It tells the story of Asa Cire and his two friends, Tanya Ito and Neveah Arias, as he tries to find the killer from a murder that happened decades before -- all while a once-in-a-century hurricane is moving in and a lot of people are out to cap Asa as well.

What I liked best about this book is that the author blends a lot of philosophy into the story without the ideas getting in the way of the action. The writing is pretty crisp, and the author doesn't spend a lot of time on exposition.
