One summer night in 1808, Sobran Jodeau sets out to drown his love sorrows in his family's vineyard when he stumbles on an angel. Once he gets over his shock, Sobran decides that Xas, the male angel, is his guardian sent to counsel him on everything from marriage to wine production. But Xas turns out to be a far more mysterious character. Compelling and erotic, The Vintner's Luck explores a decidedly unorthodox love story as Sobran eventually comes to love and be loved by both Xas and the young Countess de Valday, his friend and employer at the neighboring chateau.

Even though I’ve had a copy of this book on my shelf for many years, I didn’t get around to reading it until now, when I listened to the audiobook instead. However, the couple of times I picked up my copy to check the text for something, I discovered that the audiobook is not exactly the same as the printed copy, as though it is a later draft; that the author made changes to the original before the audio was recorded. I wonder why this is so? Now I feel I’ll have to read the printed version to see how different they are. It is beautiful writing and a very original story.
