Ben Waber reviewed Crude Capitalism by Adam Hanieh
A One-Stop Shop for Oil Industry History
5 stars
This is the oil industry history book you've been looking for, with Hanieh meticulously analyzing the path of this sector over the decades by combining quantitative, macro analysis with in depth geographic and corporate history. This is inextricably intertwined with financial and political history, and this book does a good job going into enough detail there to set the table for oil industry developments without going on long tangents. The final chapters also go into fascinating/depressing detail about new energy sources linked to the fossil fuel industry, analyzing their business and climate implications. From the perspective of both business and climate history, this book is a must read. Highly recommend
