Después del impacto de un enorme asteroide que destruye completamente Padua y Verona, se crea en la Tierra un sofisticado sistema para detectar la trayectoria de cualquier objeto que aparezca cerca de nuestro planeta. Gracias a esta predicción, se descubre un extraño asteroide que gira a una velocidad increíble, Rama, que, según todos los estudios, no volverá a pasar jamás por el Sistema Solar. En un momento dado, empiezan a aparecer indicios de que Rama pueda ser artificial. Las supuestas implicaciones que ello conllevaría transforman, de inmediato, la inquietud en temor.

Exploring an alien spaceship

This book is fascinating. It's very much a hallmark of it's time, with a few astronomical inconsistencies now that we know better, but that doesn't detract from it. At it heart, it's about exploring a fascinating space ship from an alien civilization. You, alongside the characters, are left wondering at Rama's purpose, it's inhabitants, and how everything works. The joy of discovery is a central theme for this book. I may not remember the characters or points of the plot years from now, but I will remember Rama.

No es su mejor obra, pero es la obra de un genio.

Tal y como dice otro comentario: "[...]it's 50% description of a docking maneuver, and 50% setup for an exciting book[...]". Y así es, dan ganas de leer las siguientes novelas de la saga porque esta deja muchos hilos por atar. Pongo cinco estrellas porque es de un grande y como episodio piloto me ha gustado bastante, aunque revisaré mi valoración cuando lea el resto de la saga.

I'd rate it 50/50...

... that is, it's 50% description of a docking maneuver, and 50% setup for an exciting book.

I guess that makes it one of those books you should read once, but I didn't manage to enjoy it much.
