If you tell a nondisabled person that you’re Autistic, but you’re able to hold a conversation or maintain a job, they’ll immediately start gushing about how functional you are. Usually, that remark comes with the implication that you don’t really count as disabled because you can fake a nondisabled status (if only for a moment).
