One of the most gifted and influential writers of this century, John Steinbeck was also one of America's most popular novelists. Of Mice and Men is the classic novel which forged his place permanently within American literature.

George and Lennie are two itinerant ranch hands drifting through life. Semi-retarded, timid and unknowingly powerful, Lennie is lost without his guardian, George, who feels his witted friend has been delivered into his keeping. Bound by their fragile dream of owning land where they will 'belong', their paradisal future is all too soon tragically and irrevocably shattered. --back cover

The famous Mark Twain quote "I didn't have time to write you a short letter, so I wrote you a long one" is now considered to be a misattribution, that Twain never said.

Nonetheless, whoever did say it - this book made me think of it. Truly it takes skill, craft, and artistry to write well and also be succinct.

This book feels perfect not because there's nothing else to add, but because there's nothing else to take away.

This book captured my imagination in 120 pages. And now it will stay with me for a while.
